A Difference

Does school actually benefit students? Is it actually useful? The way I see it: school teaches students how to make a life but not how to live it. What do I mean by that…? Let us see.

Teachers shove information 24/7 into student’s brains, which surely makes them academically smart. They can use that knowledge to build a better future for them and their work life. I think that is beneficial, right? By using this knowledge, you can achieve great things. In my opinion that is the only thing where school actually helps them. For their future and their work life. However, what about the other life aspects?

The sad reality is that students are bullied all over the world but school does not teach them how to defend themselves. Students are not taught how to handle stress. They are not taught how to use skills that are useful in daily life. They are not taught how to purchase a house or how to do their own taxes. Instead, they are taught how to find that x. They are taught that F stands for Failure. That does not help. Try teaching them that F stands for finding another answer. They don’t see that students are scared to raise their hand, thinking they will get it wrong? No. They keep on committing information in their heads that they will forget about. Because honestly you need to see the difference between being smart and getting good marks. You think students who fail are actually irresponsible and stupid? No. Because if you give them a chance they could become something great. You see even the greatest and smartest people alive did not go to school. So what is actually school for?

In conclusion, School does help them find a job. However, it does not help them to deal with other life aspects. Teachers teach students how to solve equations rather than let their creativity shine. They give them assignments that will surely come in handy one day, but not for now because it’s killing them.

  1. I think that the ministry of education must change this oldest curriculum asap.
I teach in a special education school, I have 8 kids max in a class, and the school's goal is to teach these kids the basic skills to deal with life.
But, from my personal experience, in the regular elementary school that I had taught last year, I had been told to stick to the curriculum.
I hope that we, as educators, will see some big changes.
